Description
Phyllobates terribilis ‘Mint’ is a large, bold dart frog with pale mint-green coloration, strong feeding response, and confident display behavior. This species is native to a very small region of Pacific coastal Colombia, where P. terribilis occurs in rainforest habitats near streams and wet forest-floor microhabitats. Males have a loud, clear call that is much more noticeable than many dart frogs. ‘Mint’ terribilis are generally group-tolerant and can often be kept in pairs or small groups when given enough floor space, leaf litter, visual cover, and ample microhabitats. They do well with broad-leaved plants, hides, cork, and heavy leaf litter. They feed well on Drosophila melanogaster, D. hydei, and, unlike most dart frogs, can consume larger feeders like wax worms and small horn worms. Captive-bred animals from Holotypica are raised with care and offered only once they are feeding well and established.
