Description
Epipedobates anthonyi ‘Santa Isabel’ is a bold, active dart frog from southwestern Ecuador and northwestern Peru. They are found in leaf litter and low forest-floor habitats, often near streams or wet areas. This locale develops rich red coloration with contrasting cream striping as it matures. Males have a loud, distinctive trilling call. They do well in vivaria with heavy leaf litter, plants, hides, and shallow water access. Unlike many dart frogs, they are often well-suited to small groups, though breeding groups should still have enough space and visual cover. Males guard eggs and transport tadpoles after hatching. They feed well on Drosophila melanogaster, D. hydei, and other appropriately sized feeders. Captive-bred animals from Holotypica are raised with care and offered only once they are feeding well and established.
