Description
Phyllobates bicolor is a large, active dart frog from western Colombia, where it is found on the rainforest floor, often near small streams. This species is known for its bright yellow-to-orange body, darker legs, strong feeding response, and bold activity. Males produce a noticeable trilling or buzzing call. P. bicolor can often be kept in pairs or small groups with enough floor space, leaf litter, hides, and visual cover, though breeding adults should be monitored for competition. They do well with heavy leaf litter, broad-leaved plants, cork, and stable ventilation. Adults feed well on Drosophila melanogaster, D. hydei, springtails, isopods, and other appropriately sized feeders. Captive-bred animals from Holotypica are raised with care and offered only once they are feeding well and established.
