Description

Mourning geckos (Lepidodactylus lugubris) are small, arboreal geckos found across tropical coastal habitats of the Indian and Pacific regions, where they use trees, bark, leaf axils, human structures, and other sheltered surfaces. They are active, (quietly) vocal, social display animals that do well in vivaria with cork bark, leaf litter, plants, and plenty of vertical cover. Mourning geckos are parthenogenetic, meaning females can reproduce without males, and they will often glue eggs in protected spots throughout the enclosure. They can be cohoused with most dart frogs, but be aware that they can reproduce quickly! They feed well on small fruit flies, pinhead crickets, bean beetles, and gecko diet. Captive-bred animals from Holotypica are raised with care and offered only once they are feeding well and established.
