Description
Phyllobates vittatus is a colorful, active dart frog from the Golfo Dulce region of southern Costa Rica, where it is found in lowland rainforest, often near slow-moving streams and small pools used for tadpole deposition. This species is known for its black body, contrasting red-orange dorsal stripes, and loud trilling calls. P. vittatus can often be kept successfully in groups when given enough space and cover. They do well in setups with broad-leaved plants, hides, and access to humid microclimates. They feed well on Drosophila melanogaster and D. hydei. Captive-bred animals from Holotypica are raised with care and offered only once they are feeding well and established.
